Many of our clients may be aware that we had severe problems with our server last month. Due to fatal errors with our hardware we were basically unable to work for an entire week. Luckily our backups were performed nightly and our data loss was kept to a minimum.
This kind of down time in a small business can potentially cause economic hardship due to negative cash flow. It can also damage client relationships due to the missing of deadlines and staff not turning up to client meetings as the electronic calendar cannot be accessed.
We urge clients to learn from our misfortune and ensure your disaster recovery plan is in place. At a minimum, make sure you check that your backups are working on a regular basis and monitor the state of your hardware.
The loss of our server has inadvertently benefited our clients. We have installed a new system using top of the line hardware and software. Client data is now more secure than ever as we have upgraded our network structure, server operating system and antivirus software. Clients can have peace of mind that their financial data will not be accessed by a third party.
