The clean energy future package - "The Carbon Tax"
Although most of us will not be directly charged the price per carbon equivalent we will all feel the impact through price increases caused by it.
Most noticeably the expected increases currently are:
|
Item |
Expected increase |
|
Electricity Steel Aluminium Concrete |
30%* 0.5-2% 0.5-2% 0.5-5% |
* This also includes price increases for infrastructure projects.
Fuel: Please note that the government has indicated that they do not expect fuel to increase until 2014, however we reserve judgement on this.
Other factors to consider
- Any fixed contracts that have the ability to increase prices due to the carbon tax for either your suppliers or yourself
- Indirect costs increases by suppliers who are large users of electricity
- The ACCC will be monitoring price increases which have been ‘marketed’ as due to the carbon tax – documentation should be kept to support this.
